Casella Waste Systems will install a new reporting solution in 300 of its collection vehicles by 2012 to help improve driver behavior and improve operation efficiencies. The FleetMind Solutions system includes tools for onboard computing, fleet mapping, reporting and analysis, driver direction, automated service verification, and wireless communications.

“We expect our investment in FleetMind’s technology to improve the quality of our customer experience, as well as deliver real environmental health benefits through the improved efficiency of our vehicles,” said Bill Tavares, vp-transportation. “Customers will benefit from our enhanced ability to now provide real-time on-route information, while we can all breathe easier knowing that our FleetMind-equipped vehicles are helping us reduce vehicle mileage and fuel consumption, as well as overall greenhouse gas emissions.”

Six locations have already deployed the system with 19 additional sites to be added throughout the year. Casella, based in Rutland, VT, provides solid waste, recycling, and resource management services in the Northeast.

The company believes the solution will help improve driver behavior by giving it the ability to proactively implement fleet safety initiatives. It also will improve efficiencies through its real-time reporting capabilities and visibility into every route, vehicle and container, the company said.

“Casella has a distinct vision for company-wide operational innovation and excellence, including fleet operations,” said Martin Demers, CEO of FleetMind. “It was therefore of utmost importance to them that a fleet management solution had to support the company's high standards for sustainability and service. FleetMind has invested millions of dollars and over 10 years in strategic research and development to ensure that our customers have the best tools and technologies to improve their fleet operations and keep them at the forefront of the industry.”
