Eaton Corp. has announced that its Vorad VS-400 collision warning systems are now available as a factory-installed option on all Freightliner Cascadia, Century and Columbia Class 8 trucks.
The Vorad VS-400, featuring a 77-GHz radar, alerts drivers of both slow-moving and stationary objects up to 500 ft. ahead of the vehicle through in-cab audio and visual alerts, Eaton said.
According to the company, five different specification selections for the Vorad safety systems are currently available for Freightliner trucks, including with or without SmartCruise adaptive cruise control and with the BlindSpotter side object detection system only.
The SmartCruise system helps a truck driver maintain a safe following distance, automatically adjusting vehicle speed to help prevent collisions, while the BlindSpotter system provides an audio signal when an object is identified alongside the vehicle while a turn signal is activated.
