WABCO to market OptiFlow trailer aerodynamic system 23 October 2012
Following its recent acquisition of Dutch-based CV aerodynamics specialists Ephicas, WABCO is now marketing the Sidewing trailer side-valance aero-system, launched by Ephicas in 2011, under its own OptiFlow brand name.
SideWing systems have already been installed on more than 100 vehicles across 17 major European fleets, and are said to be delivering an average 5% fuel-saving (1.5l/100km) in long-haul operations, with subsequent CO2 reductions, too.
The SideWing valances feature a patented wing-shape on their inside leading edges and WABCO claims: "Independent tests verify that these fuel savings are up to three times greater than those delivered by comparable competitive products."
As well as offering anti-spray and under-run protection, the composite SideWing valances have a high impact-resistance, even at low temperatures.
They are available to trailer makers, bodybuilders and fleet operators in short or long versions, the latter weighing roughly 220kg. Hinged panels provide easy access to the trailer's chassis and landing-legs.

SideWing will be sold in the UK as part of WABCO's Intelligent Trailer Program, via its sales representatives.
