Global express carrier DHL is staying on the expansion track as it upgrades international and custom-clearance services for a wide range of shippers while adding new terminals to its ground operations in the U.S.

DHL recently partnered with Baltimore, MD-based Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services Inc. (STTAS) to offer business process enhancement, tariff classification, compliance with government supply chain security initiatives, free trade agreement optimization, and customs training to all of DHL’s import/export clients. This move follows the formation of DHL’s Global Trade Services division last month, a unit designed to speed up cross-border shipping for customers.

DHL has also upgraded its international express operations to the U.S. to offer noon delivery from the previous end-of-business-day transit time for U.S. importers and international customers. The company’s newly expanded primary air and ground hub in Wilmington, OH, along with improved letter and package automation and optimized inbound flight routings as well as improved pickup and delivery efficiency are the main reasons for this improvement, said John Cameron, DHL’s executive vp-operations.

“With earlier transit times to the US market, customers can be more competitive in any industry where speed-to-market is critical,” he added.

Finally, DHL recently opened a new $640,000, 11,000 sq.-ft. facility in White River Junction, VT, expanding its presence in the Upper Valley region. The pickup and delivery area for the new facility includes areas in and around White River Junction, VT, as well as areas in New Hampshire and will handle all types of shipments. The facility also handles domestic and international parcels and palletized, loose-load and container freight.
