Truckers Against Cancer (Formally Convoy for a Cure - USA) will be promoting its upcoming convoy in Laredo, TX, on Oct. 26-27, as well as putting on a convoy for Special Olympics on Saturday night, Aug 25, at 7 p.m. in the Reunion Arena parking lot at the Great American Trucking Show.
The group will also be joining forces with Truckers United for Charities and cooking and selling food in the Reunion Arena parking lot all three days of GATS to support various charities.
Truckers Against Cancer is a group of truckers that banded together to raise money for various cancer organizations and to help fund cancer education, research and development, patient needs, and other amenities that insurances do not provide.
The group will be registering drivers for the October convoy in booth 24121 at GATS.
Truckers Against Cancer was formerly called Convoy for a Cure – USA. Due to legal issues, the organization changed its name and regrouped efforts to support not only Breast Cancer, but all cancers.
Officers of the organization include:
- Cindy Stowe, president — Stowe has been a trucker since 1992 and has worked for FFE Transportation since 1993. Currently a company driver, she has also been a driver trainer and an owner/operator leased to FFE. Since 2001, she became the Texas Ambassador to The World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics and in 2009 formed Convoy for a Cure – USA benefitting Breastcancer.org.
- Darren Heller, treasurer — Darren Heller has been in trucking since 1998. Sharing his Ambassadorship with his wife, Elizabeth, to The World’s Largest Truck Convoy for South Dakota. He also was one of the founders of Convoy for a Cure – USA and is currently an owner-operator with Prime.
- Elizabeth Heller, secretary — Elizabeth Heller has been trucking since 1998 and shares her Ambassadorship with Darren for South Dakota for The World’s Largest Truck Convoy. She was also one of the founders of Convoy for a Cure – USA. She co-owns and drives her truck with husband Darren.
- Floyd Stowe, sargent at arms — After serving in the US Army for 17 1/2 years, Floyd Stowe became a truck driver in 1993. He currently drives for Celadon and has been involved with The World’s Largest Truck Convoy and Convoy for a Cure – USA.
- Lori Villamonte , vice president — Villamonte has been in trucking since 1999. She is also a breast cancer survivor. She is now an owner-operator leased to a small Texas trucking company.
The Great American Trucking Show offers attendees a wide variety of industry exhibitors and free educational seminars. Some of the events that will be held during the 14th annual Great American Trucking Show are:
