LAS VEGAS. The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) named Josh Grimaldi, a driver for Prime, Inc., as its “Highway Angel of the Year” for 2015 for his successful rescue of a pregnant woman trapped in a motor vehicle following a crash on a snowy highway last December.
Lance Platt, CEO of EpicVue, presented Grimaldi with a trophy and prize package at TCA’s annual meeting; a prize package comprised of a complimentary EpicVue satellite TV bundle that includes a 24-inch flat screen TV, a DVR, and a one-year Direct TV subscription.
The incident involved a speeding car that lost control on the snow-covered westbound lanes of I-80 over the Donner Pass, flipping over several times. Grimaldi, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, stopped his truck and ultimately climbed into the wrecked vehicle to extract the injured and pregnant driver. Once another driver – fortunately a nurse – came to his aid, he placed strobe lights and reflective safety triangles around the crushed car to warn other vehicles approaching the crash scene before dialing 911 to report the situation.
“I admire what Josh did—and what all of the Highway Angels have done throughout the years,” EpicVue’s Platt said during the awards ceremony. “None of them were required to stop and help; they did it freely and on their own. It is our privilege to sponsor this very worthwhile program that recognizes them for their selfless acts of compassion.”
