Tyson Foods Inc intends to sell its poultry plants in Ashland and Gadsden AL to Koch Foods Inc of Park Ridge IL
Tyson Foods Inc intends to sell its poultry plants in Ashland and Gadsden AL to Koch Foods Inc of Park Ridge IL. The sale will include a feed mill in Talladega and hatcheries in Fair Knoll and Empire AL. Terms of this proposed transaction are not being disclosed, though the firms are trying to conclude the deal before the end of May.
About 1,200 employees serve at the Tyson plants involved in the sale, and many likely will receive a chance to work for Koch. However, 400 of the 675 jobs at the Gadsden plant will be terminated by late May, as Tyson transfers processing to other operations. Tyson does not plan to transfer any production from the Ashland plant, which has about 300 employees.
When the transaction is complete, Tyson should have some 2,400 employees in Alabama.
