In honor of Veterans’ Day 2010, Choptank Transport held a drawing November 11 for two $250 Walmart gift cards. Those eligible for the drawing were Choptank employees or independent agents working for the firm with an immediate family member in active duty or the reserves.
Winners were announced November 12. They were John Dial, husband of Amanda Dial, billing clerk at Choptank; and Edward White, brother of Julie White, a logistics coordinator with the Preston MD-based company.
Sgt Dial is an E5 in the US Marine Corps and has been in the Marines since October 2002. He has done three tours in Iraq, where he was a scout squad leader of the 2nd Light Armor Recon. His tours included Fallujah, Anah, and Al Anbar. He is currently on recruiting duty in Easton MD.
White is serving his fourth year in the US Army. He has been deployed to Afghanistan three times. On his first tour, he was hurt in an IED (improvised explosive device) bombing, and two others in his troop were killed. He was awarded the Purple Heart along with a coin from his general for heroism in the attack. He has returned home and is stationed in Kansas.
Founded in 1984 as a logistics broker specializing in refrigerated and van transportation, Choptank has more than 10,000 carriers under contract and provides 24-hour dispatch.
