NJ Turnpike crash to affect traffic on I-195 for months

Oct. 15, 2012

Drivers traveling westbound on Interstate 195 near interchange 7a in Mercer County, NJ, can expect continuing traffic delays in the coming months as a result of a fatal accident earlier this month.

A dump truck overturned and burst into flames on Oct. 3, killing the driver. Flames from the blaze damaged an Interstate 195 overpass along the New Jersey Turnpike causing shutdowns and major traffic delays on the toll road and 195.

Transportation officials said they won'’ repair the damaged overpass, as I-195 traffic will eventually use a new overpass that’s under construction, according to a PhillyBurbs.com report.

A Dept. of Transportation spokesman said the overpass was originally scheduled to be completed in December, but that officials will try to speed up that timetable.
