Alternative fuel study to be presented at NATSO event

Nov. 21, 2012

A two-year study focusing on heavy-duty trucks and alternative fuels through 2050 was released earlier this year. Now, for the first time publicly, that study will be presented in detail at the upcoming NATSO Show in Savannah, GA.

The study, “Advancing Technology for America’s Transportation Future,” offers an in-depth look at the future of alternative fuels, including natural gas, plug-in electric power, hydrogen, biodiesel, gasoline and ethanol blends.

The study was conducted by the National Petroleum Council at the request of the U.S. Secretary of Energy. Over 300 leading academics, engineering experts and executives in the vehicles and fuels industries were surveyed.

The presentation will take place at The NATSO Show, Feb. 2-6 at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.

The presentation will answer:

  • Will diesel power remain the dominant fuel source in the future?
  • What will the natural gas market share look like for heavy-duty trucking in 2050?
  • With the adoption of a wide variety of engine, powertrain, and vehicle technologies, how will heavy-duty truck fuel economy change in the next forty years?
  • Will gasoline power be a formidable competitor in the medium-duty sector in the future?
