Cummins 6.7L gets natural gas version

May 6, 2015

DALLAS.  The Cummins Westport Inc. (CWI) joint venture unveiled a new 6.7-liter natural gas engine at the Alternative Clean Technologies (ACT) Expo and Conference.  Based on the popular Cummins ISB, the new ISB6.7G will extend the CWI line of natural gas engines into the lower end of the midrange with power ratings from 200 to 260 HP and peak torques up to 660 lbs.-ft.

Like CWI’s heavier ISLG 9L and ISX12G 12L natural gas models, the new engine uses the company’s proprietary technology featuring spark-ignited stoichiometric combustion with cooled exhaust gas recirculation and a passive three-way catalyst aftertreatment.

Applications are expected to include school buses and other midrange commercial applications. Field trials are currently underway and full production is scheduled to begin in mid-2016 at Cummins medium-duty engine plant in Rocky Mount, NC.
