Wireless, real-time access to diagnostic information and performance programming will be available for Cummins engines and ZF Meritor's automated mechanical transmissions through eTechnician, a new onboard monitoring and telematics system from NEXIQ Technologies. (See FO, 10/01, p. 187.)

Under an agreement announced in late October, ZF Meritor dealers and technicians will be able to remotely reprogram performance parameters, access stored performance information and run diagnostic routines for FreedomLine and SureShift transmissions.

A similar agreement will allow Cummins engines to be wirelessly reprogrammed with eTechnician and Cummins' PowerSpec engine management application.

The new NEXIQ system will also provide wireless access to Cummins' RoadRelay 4 electronic monitoring system. Fleets subscribing to eTechnician, which is an Internet-based ASP, will be able to remotely download trip reports, fault information, vehicle location and maintenance data collected by the system.

Commercial availability of the eTechnician service is scheduled to launch in February 2002.
