St. Louis-based Xtra Lease has announced a new set of trailer-tracking enhancements designed to reduce the number of idle or dormant trailers and improve trailer visibility and security

St. Louis-based Xtra Lease (www.xtra.com) has announced a new set of trailer-tracking enhancements designed to reduce the number of idle or dormant trailers and improve trailer visibility and security. The new features include custom landmarking tools for finding and identifying idle trailers, emergency tracking, plus enhanced options for pinging trailers and monitoring cargo and door sensor events.

According to Xtra Lease, the new functions give customers more ways to improve fleet productivity and minimize idle trailer time, improve fleet visibility and tighten security.
“We’re giving customers more power to monitor their fleets along with the ability to customize trailer tracking reporting based on their freight patterns,” said Bill Franz, CEO & president of Xtra Lease.

In March, Xtra Lease introduced a new trailer tracking system for its fleet, a customized version of Qualcomm’s T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS asset management system. The tracking devices use solar-powered charging, combined with 7-way power, to increase battery life. A new web-based interface is designed to enable Xtra Lease customers to immediately focus on trailer dormancy and utilization and find trailers quickly.

Xtra Lease and Qualcomm collaborated to create a new web-based user interface for Xtra Lease customers to manage their fleets through trailer tracking, along with expanded coverage into Mexico. To date, XTRA Lease has installed T2 asset management system installations on more than 30,000 trailers. A third release of enhancements, available later this year for Xtra Lease’s long-term lease customers, will provide even further advanced reporting capabilities.
