DHL Los Angeles station receives accreditation

Logistics company DHL’s Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) station has received accreditation as a Qualified Envirotainer Provider (QEP). It is among several DHL stations to be QEP-accredited in 2011.

DHL Global Forwarding is the largest forwarder of Envirotainer containers—manufactured air cargo containers used for temperature-sensitive shipments. Within three months, the LAX station managed to complete the QEP training, documentation, and audit, thus gaining endorsement for DHL Global Forwarding’s station to ship in Envirotainer containers.

The LAX station transports temperature- and time-sensitive life science and healthcare industry medications from biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients, for treatment of various life-threatening diseases. The 190,000-square-foot station has about 70,000 square feet dedicated to exports mainly shipped to Egypt, Guatemala, India, and Russia. With more than 15 years working with life science customers at LAX, DHL leads the development of cold chain systems, including temperature-controlled package handling, in-transit visibility to shipments, and controlled environments for cold chain storage.

Envirotainer launched its QEP/CEP Training and Quality Program at the request of shippers of healthcare products and in response to industry guidance. The program acknowledges those service providers capable of properly managing shipments using Envirotainer containers. It confirms providers meet obligations as defined in the current Good Distribution Practices (GDP) guidance documents, including requirements of the Parenteral Drug Association (PDA) and International Air Transport Association (IATA).

DHL Global Forwarding currently has a total of 17 dedicated Life Science Competence Centers worldwide. It plans to increase the number of Competence Centers to 37 by the end of 2011. Visit www.dhl.com for more information.
