Bergstrom NITE system CARB-approved

Bergstrom Inc. has announced its No-Idle Thermal Environment (NITE) system has been approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for use on the state’s roadways. According to the company, the NITE system can reduce truck’s fuel usage by up to 3,790 gallons a year, saving owners more then $15,500 annually in fuel costs and maintenance.

“The benefits of using a battery-powered no-idle solution are tremendous,” said Terry Zeigler, vp of electrified systems at Bergstrom. “The engine-off heating and cooling system not only provides year-round comfort and saves money on fuel, but also complies with anti-idling laws and reduces emissions.”

The NITE system features a battery-powered and fully electrified sleeper AC system for over-the-road and engine-off operation. When the engine is off, the sleeper AC operates on deep-cycle batteries, switching to the truck’s engine-driven electrical system when the engine is running, Bergstrom said. The system will be factory-installed in Navistar trucks beginning in the fourth quarter of 2008.
