NGVAmerica and the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation have awarded three individuals and three organizations their 2010 National NGV Achievement Awards for commitments to promote the natural gas vehicle industry.

The awards were presented at the associations’ joint Natural Gas Vehicle Summit-Conference. This year’s winners are Verizon, Choice Environmental Services, the Los Angeles Unified School District, Oklahoma Speaker of the House Chris Benge, Joseph Noorlag, vice president–operations support, West Region, for Republic Services, Inc., and Ron Gulmi, manager, product management-transportation, for National Grid.

Verizon added 501 compressed natural gas (CNG) cargo vans to its fleet this year.

Choice, based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, a solid waste and recycling services company, has put into service 11 CNG refuse trucks in its fleet.

The Los Angeles Unified School District, through the assistance of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, has purchased 260 natural-gas powered school buses, making it the largest fleet of natural gas school buses in the country.

Benge helped push through the Oklahoma Energy Security Act, which establishes the goal of having at least one public CNG station for every 100 mi. of road by 2015.

Noorlag helped Republic Services, a provider of services in the solid waste industry, deploy 226 refuse vehicles at 10 facilities from California to Washington.

Gulmi represents electric provider National Grid in the Northeast. He has been at the forefront of assisting and promoting the advancement of natural gas vehicles.

NGVAmerica is dedicated to the development of natural gas or biomethane markets and infrastructure.
