The recent Diesel Technology Forum Clean Diesel Power event in Washington, D.C., provided top Environmental Protection Agency officials the chance to preview the new 2010 Freightliner Cascadia day cab with BlueTec SCR technology.

The truck is said to produce up to a 5% improvement on fuel compared to the Freightliner Century Class truck certified to meet 2007 EPA standards. The new Cascadia will save nearly 11,500 gals. of fuel per truck over an average lifetime of one million miles, Freightliner said.

The Cascadia day cab meets all EPA SmartWay specifications for fuel economy and emissions reduction and the company expects a 124-ton reduction of CO2 per truck with NOx emissions nears zero, per the new 2010 EPA guidelines.

The vehicle is equipped with a Detroit Diesel DD13 engine and BlueTec 1-Box emissions control system. BlueTec was developed by Freightliner parent Daimler as a way to control emissions through selective catalytic reduction technology in Detroit Diesel engines.
