Another week, another jump in the price of diesel. For the fourth straight week, a gallon of diesel has risen -- climbing 7 cents to $2.57/gal. this week. One month ago, a gallon of diesel was $2.23/gal. A year ago, the price was $4.65/gal.
California saw the smallest increase this week, just 5 cents, but still has the highest per-gallon cost in the nation at $2.73. The Lower Atlantic region saw the highest increase, at 9 cents, settling at $2.56/gal.
The New England, Central Atlantic, East Coast and Midwest regions all increased 8 cents to range from $2.55 in the Midwest to $2.70 in the Central Atlantic. The Rocky Mountain area, at $2.52, has the cheapest diesel in the U.S. despite an 8-cent jump. The Gulf Coast, at $2.54, and the West Coast, at $2.66, climbed 7 and 6 cents, respectively.
