UPS puts 245 CNG trucks on delivery routes

UPS has announced the deployment of 245 compressed natural gas-powered delivery trucks to cities in Colorado and California. The company now operates more than 1,900 alternative fuel vehicles.

“The greening of our fleet demonstrates the effectiveness of harnessing multiple technologies and applying the right vehicles to areas where they will provide the best advantage,” said Bob Stoffel, UPS senior vp of supply chain, strategy, engineering and sustainability. “Compressed natural gas continues to be a sustainable technology for UPS’s fleet because natural gas is cost effective, clean-burning and abundant.”

The UPS CNG fleet totals more than 1,100 vehicles worldwide, the company said. The trucks are equipped with the company’s signature brown “package car” bodies and are expected to yield a 15% emissions reduction over diesel-powered units.
