Shell Lubricants introduced its new Rotella T3 NG 15W-40 motor oil for use in compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) engines at the Technology & Maintenance Council’s annual meeting in Tampa this week. Shell said the new oil “uses a customized combination of high-performance additives to adapt and protect under the range of pressures and temperatures found in CNG/LNG fueled engines. “

Mark Reed, global brand manager for Shell Rotella, said T3 NG is an SAE 15W-40 rated oil is for applications such as trucks and buses fitted with engines designed to run on 100% CNG or LNG, particularly those preferring relatively low-ash formulations. The oil is uitable for use in Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Mahindra and Hyundai CNG/LNG engines., he noted.

Reed said the new T3 NG oil formulation offers an “optimized” balance of detergents and dispersants for good piston and engine cleanliness; ignition system protection through reduced levels of “ash” containing additives, which control deposit formation in the combustion chamber; plus wear protection of liners, rings, bearings and valve train components for long engine life.

“The addition of T3 NG our oil portfolio provides additional strength to our product line-up, which includes conventional, synthetic blend and full synthetic diesel engine oils,” Reed said.
