Mexican bakery company Grupo Bimbo has begun using the first medium-duty hybrid truck for pickup and delivery in Mexico.

The Kenworth T270 truck was presented to Grupo by Paccar Mexico gm, Samuel M. Means III. "This unit that we have here will be remembered as the first medium duty hybrid truck for pickup and delivery goods in Mexico. Today we have started to write history," Means said at the ceremony at the Transport Museum in Mexico City.

The T270 is a diesel-electric hybrid that reduces fuel consumption up to 30%, reduces carbon dioxide by 40% and carbon monoxide by 90%. The hybrid uses a Paccar PX-6 with an Eaton diesel-electric hybrid power system that integrates an electric engine with 60 hp, enough to start moving the vehicle without the use of the diesel engine. Every time the vehicle brakes, a 340-volt battery is recharged.

"We have analyzed different options in the market and we have found Kenworth hybrid products to be the best and a unique option for pickup and delivery" Jose Luis Rodriguez, Grupo Bimbo vehicles director, said.
