Diesel fuel keeps on sliding

After reaching a summer high five weeks ago, the price of diesel continues to inch downward, falling for the fifth straight week to settle at $2.50/gal. A year ago at this time, it was $4.60.

On June 22, a gallon of diesel was selling nationwide for $2.62. Since then it dropped to its current level. California remains the highest region at $2.70/gal. The Central Atlantic region comes in at $2.63 with both New England and the West Coast at $2.60. The Gulf Coast is the cheapest region for diesel at just $2.44.

The Lower Atlantic is at $2.46 with the Midwest at $2.47 and the East Coast at $2.51. The Rocky Mountain region is at $2.56.
