Kenworth has announced its Clean Power no-idle system has qualified for an exemption from the 12% U.S. Federal Excise Tax (FET). The Internal Revenue Service recently announced that idle reduction devices approved through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay program can qualify for the FET exemption.

Available as a factory-installed option for Kenworth T660, T800 and W900 models equipped with the 72-in. AeroCab sleeper, Kenworth Clean Power can enhance fuel economy by as much as 8%, the company said.

In addition, Kenworth announced that purchasers of Kenworth T370 Class 7 and T270 Class 6 hybrid trucks in both pickup and delivery and utility boom applications are eligible for a tax credit of up to $12,000 when the vehicle is equipped with a Paccar PX-6 engine and an Eaton diesel-electric hybrid power system.

According to Kenworth, anybody who purchases a T370 hybrid built this year qualifies for a $12,000 federal tax credit while buyers of the T270 qualify for a $6,000 federal tax credit.
