CALSTART and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) have created a web site specifically to deal with requests for information regarding the new California Hybrid Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program (HVIP).

The site, californiahvip.org, provides details, identifies the requirements necessary, and provides a forum to request vouchers to purchase hybrid trucks and buses in 2010. CARB has made almost $20 million in funds available for the purchase of hybrid trucks and buses through the voucher program.

CALSTART will manage the site as well as provide training sessions for truck dealers and fleets on the process to request vouchers, starting in January. More details appear on the site.

Vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified dealers and their fleet customers. To qualify, dealers must complete the training. Vouchers range from $10,000 to $45,000 per vehicle with a maximum of 100 vouchers per fleet.

“HVIP is an exciting project that could lead to the introduction of as many as 800 hybrid trucks and buses on California’s roads, a nearly 50% increase in volume for these vehicles in the early market,” said John Boesel, president & CEO of CALSTART. “We hope HVIP becomes a model for how to spur the faster adoption of clean, low-carbon vehicles nationwide.”
