A new drive tire from Toyo Tires designed for long haul, highway applications, has been verified by the U.S. EPA SmartWay organization.

Available in size 11R22.5, 295/75R22.5, 11R24.5 and 285/75R24.5, the G-rated M657 utilizes Toyo’s e-balance technology for a stiffer belt package, stiffer bead construction, and optimization through simulation technology. Benefits include improved tire life, improved endurance, improved irregular wear resistance and improved fuel consumption, Toyo said.

The tire, which has 28/32-in. tread depth, is suitable for either single or twin drive-axle applications. It has a multi-pitch groove design to enhance traction, and large parallel-arranged center tread blocks for stability and traction.

Stone ejectors help protect the casing against stone drilling, Toyo said, and the shoulder design resists irregular wear in long haul applications.

A high elongation steel cord in the number-four belt helps protect the casing against impacts and cuts and promotes multiple retreads. A special cap-and-base compound provides cooler running and longer casing life, the company said.
