Exel Transportation Services (ETS) has earned SmartWay partner designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its fuel efficiency and emissions reduction efforts, the company said. As a SmartWay partner, ETS must ship 50% of its customer freight via partnership carriers and provide annual progress reports to the EPA.

According to EPA estimates, participating companies will cut carbon dioxide emissions between 33 million and 66 million metric tons per year and nitrogen oxide emissions by 200,000 tons each year by 2012. ETS is the second division within parent company Exel to earn the SmartWay designation, following Exel's managed transportation operations unit in 2007. www.exel.com
