The Environmental Protection Agency has certified dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems for 2011 model-year Ford commercial vehicles, according to Impco Automotive, a business unit of Fuel System Solutions.

The certifications mean the systems, built by Impco, can be fitted onto several Ford platforms. The Ford products available for the conversion include:

- Ford 5.4L V8 engine in the Ford E-150, 250 & 350

- Ford 6.8L V10 2 valve engine in the Ford E-450

- Ford 6.8L V10 3 valve engine in the Ford F450, 550 Super Duty Truck

- Ford 6.2L V8 engine in the Ford F-250, 350 Super Duty Truck

- Ford 2.0L I4 engine in the Ford Transit Connect Van

The California Air Resources Board has also approved the systems for the 6.8L V10 engines in both the 2-valve and 3-valve configurations.

“We are excited to expand our offering of products to convert popular Ford trucks from gasoline to clean burning plentiful, domestic CNG,” said Rob Lykins, automotive director of sales & marketing. “Our innovative fuel systems enable fleets and vehicle operators to significantly lower their operating costs and reduce emissions while at the same time avoid reliance on foreign oil during these times of rising fuel prices.”

Impco offers CNG and LPG system installations at its Union City, IN, plant and through a nationwide distributor and installation network.
