A Freightliner Business Class M2 106 hybrid rolled off the assembly line yesterday in Mt. Holly, NC, marking the 1,000th hybrid-electric vehicle produced by Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA). Amid customers, employees and business partners, the truck, which features the same characteristics as its Business Class M2 counterpart, came off the line fitted with an EPA 2010-compliant engine coupled with an Eaton Hybrid Electric Drivetrain System.

The Eaton system is a parallel hybrid that allows the vehicle to use solely the diesel engine or run in combination with the hybrid electric motor. The electric motor provides enough power to launch and accelerate the truck, gaining its power from regenerative braking technology.

“DTNA has worked closely with our partners and customers to develop leading-edge hybrid solutions that shape future transportation by maximizing fuel efficiency while also benefiting the environment,” said Mark Lampert, senior vp of sales & marketing for DTNA. “And it is because of the shared dedication between us, our partners and customers that we were able to reach this important 1,000th vehicle milestone.”

DTNA noted that the Business Class M2 106 hybrid is aimed at beverage, dump, government, landscape, towing, utility vehicles, and emergency applications. It can be equipped with an electronic PTO and/or 110V power generation capabilities to power hydraulics, lights, tools, or other equipment, including refrigerated cargo applications.
