The Columbus, MS, Municipal School District has taken delivery of the first Navistar school buses with 2010 emissions-compliant engines. The 28 IC Bus CE Series buses were purchased with funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in conjunction with the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act’s National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program. The buses are powered by Navistar’s MaxxForce DT Advanced Exhaust Gas Recirculation engines.

“We’re proud to deliver these buses with 2010-certified engines to the Columbus School District,” said John McKinney, president of IC Bus. “The delivery of these buses, powered by our EPA-certified MaxxForce Advanced EGR engines, marks our first step in the launch of our 2010 engines.”

While Navistar’s heavy-duty 11- and 13-liter engines have not yet been certified, a Navistar spokesperson told FleetOwner that EPA’s approval of its medium-duty DT diesels “certified our solution.” Currently, the only heavy-duty engines to receive EPA 2010 certification are the Volvo and Mack 11- and 13-liter diesels.
