Equipment manufacturers have developed unique spec sheets detailing equipment requirements and options for placing an order for an EPA-designated SmartWay tractor or trailer. “Fleet owners can purchase SmartWay tractors and trailers and know that they have the cleanest, most fuel-efficient equipment available,” according to EPA. “Carriers know they are getting a qualified tractor or trailer by looking for the special designation mark affixed on the inside of the tractor cab or trailer.”
SmartWay-designated tractors can be ordered through the following manufacturers:
Daimler
Navistar International
Kenworth
Mack
Peterbilt
Volvo
SmartWay-designated trailers can be ordered directly from the following manufacturers and their dealers:
Great Dane Trailers
Hyundai Translead
Manac Inc.
Stoughton Trailers LLC
Trailmobile Canada Limited
Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co.
Vanguard National Trailer Corp.
Wabash National Corp.
Many trailer dealers will sell upgraded trailers that have been designated SmartWay. Contact your local trailer dealer to see if it offers new and retrofit equipment that meets SmartWay specifications.
SmartWay has also identified a group of fuel-saving technologies and has bundled them into a package known as an “upgrade kit.” Upgrade kits are highly fuel-efficient technologies bundled with emissions-control devices to reduce fuel consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases and other harmful air pollutants. EPA says when trucking companies install upgrade kits on trucks, most will experience a full return on investment within one to three years.
