A battery-powered auxiliary air conditioning system intended for day cabs was introduced by Dometic Environmental Corp. at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The CARB-compliant system is designed to reduce idling while a truck is waiting to load and unload. The 7,000-Btu unit provides two hours of cooling without running the truck engine, using a bank of Group 31 absorbed glass mat batteries for power.

The 7,000-Btu unit provides two hours of cooling without running the truck engine, using a bank of Group 31 absorbed glass mat batteries for power. The system includes a compressor/evaporator/blower unit that fits between the seats, as well as an external condensing unit for the back of the cab or under the truck. A digital thermostat control panel is mounted on top of the in-cab unit for easy driver access.
The package also includes a 2,000-watt inverter and a high-capacity alternator. www.dometic.com
