Cummins Crosspoint to license NITE technology

May 21, 2012

Cummins Crosspoint has signed an agreement to allow it to license Bergstrom’s NITE no-idle technology for use in its own battery-powered no-idle systems. The agreement relates primarily to battery-powered APU product technologies, although potential future collaborations are possible, Bergstrom said.

Cummins Crosspoint recently acquired ClimaCab assets and technology from California-based Glacier Bay, Inc. Bergstrom had sued Glacier Bay claiming patent infringement. The purchase of the ClimaCab assets by Cummins Crosspoint allowed Bergstrom and Glacier Bay to reach a settlement of the suit, which was dismissed. Terms were not disclosed.

Cummins Crosspoint is a Cummins distributor, providing sales, service, and parts for all Cummins products in a five-state territory that includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.

“Cummins Crosspoint is a highly-respected company within the industry, and we share many synergies with each other,” said Bill Gordon, vice president of aftermarket and NITE sales. “We are very excited to partner with Crosspoint to further help drivers all across the world remain comfortable while adhering to anti-idling regulation.”

Bergstrom introduced the NITE system in 2003 and has since manufactured over 30,000 of the units.
