Kenworth to offer ride-and-drives of CNG tractor at HTUF

Sept. 18, 2012

Kenworth will have a T440 compressed natural gas (CNG) tractor for visitors to test drive during the 12th annual High-Efficiency Truck Users Forum (HTUF) Sept. 18-20 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC.

HTUF is a national forum that brings together fleets, suppliers and manufacturers to examine the latest in hybrid technology for the trucking industry.

The Kenworth T440 CNG vehicle will participate in the HTUF Ride and Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the zMax Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The tractor is equipped with an 8.9L Cummins Westport ISL G engine, 6-spd. Allison 3000HS transmission and Kenworth extended daycab.

The T440 is available as a straight truck or tractor in a gross vehicle weight (GVW) ranging from a heavy Class 7 vehicle at 33,000 lbs. up to a light Class 8 truck at 68,000 lbs. The ISL G engine uses a maintenance-free, three-way catalyst and is 2010 EPA- and CARB-compliant without the use of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology or a diesel particulate filter (DPF).  Rated at 320 hp. and 1,000 lbs.-ft. of torque, the engine's torque curve closely matches that of its diesel counterparts, Kenworth said.

“HTUF offers an excellent opportunity for fleet and truck operators to test out the T440 CNG truck by taking a drive or ride on the track,” said Doug Powell, Kenworth medium duty marketing manager. “Kenworth continues to expand its line of compressed and liquefied natural gas trucks, which serve a growing number of applications and provides excellent, low-emission solutions combined with outstanding efficiency, horsepower and torque.”
