Hino hybrid approved for incentive program

Nov. 6, 2012

A Hino Trucks diesel-electric hybrid cabover has been approved for participating in the California Air Resources Board (CARB) California Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program (HVIP).

Hino’s model-year Class 5 195h diesel-electric hybrid is now eligible for incentives, the company said.

“California customers will take delivery of the first diesel-electric 195h vehicles in November,” said Glenn Ellis, Hino Trucks vice president of marketing. “It is our goal to help support CARB’s initiative of accelerating the deployment of hybrid trucks. The hybrid upcharge on our 195h is only $12,000, so customers who utilize the HVIP can see up to a $25,000 voucher. This means they can purchase a 195h hybrid truck for less than a traditional diesel truck.”

HVIP is an incentive program created by CARB to accelerate the deployment of hybrid and zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in the state.

The 195h features a 33-in. frame rail width, a 56,900-lbs. psi frame, and a standard center mounted rear fuel tank. The interior of the cab provide room for drivers up to 6 ft. 6 in. tall, seating for three and a variety of organizational storage options, Hino said.
