100,000th TriPac unit produced

Nov. 13, 2012

Thermo King is celebrating the production of the 100,000th TriPac auxiliary power unit (APU) in its Hastings, NE, plant.

The TriPac APU provides heating and cooling without idling the tractor engine. First introduced in 2005, the TriPac supplies heating, air conditioning and hotel power. It also charges and maintains the tractor batteries and provides engine coolant warming to the main tractor engine to ease engine start in cold ambient conditions.

Depending on customer application, the TriPac APU has a typical payback range of 13 to 24 months, Thermo King said.

In August, Thermo King announced the launch of the TriPac Evolution APU which meets Tier IV Environmental Protection Agency final regulations requirements while leveraging new patented technology to drive unit performance, efficiency and user productivity. This solution can be ordered after April 1, 2013, for shipment in the second quarter of 2013.
