M & M Cartage has become the first regional truckload carrier based in Kentucky to take delivery of a compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle, it said.
The truck, a 2013 Freightliner powered by a Cummins ISL GM2 9L engine, will be evaluated as part of a test of the fuel, M & M said. The fleet has 170 trucks with 450 trailers.
“We would like to operate 100 CNG trucks over the next four years, “said Don Hayden, president. “CNG is an environmental and economical option to traditional diesel.”
Agility Fuel Systems provided the 100-gal. fuel system, which is located behind the cab.
“We congratulate Don and his forward thinking leadership in deploying the first dedicated natural gas tractor in the area,” said Ron Eickelman, Agility president.
During the evaluation period, the truck will run various routes in Metro Louisville and across Kentucky.
