Natural gas vehicle training sessions planned

June 21, 2013

The Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi) is planning training sessions in San Leandro, CA, on natural gas vehicle inspection, safety and standards. There will be two sessions, a one-day session on Aug. 27, 2013, and a two-day session on Aug. 28-29, 2013.

NGVi is a provider of technical consulting and training on natural gas vehicles and fueling technologies

According to the organization, CNG fuel system inspections are one of the main elements contributing to NGV fleet safety. Also regular inspections of all CNG fuel systems are required by law. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration stipulates that a detailed visual inspection of the entire CNG fuel system, including the cylinders, be conducted every three years or 36,000 mi., NGVi said. The inspections must be performed by qualified CNG fuel system inspectors, and in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

The one-day session will teach the elements involved in safe maintenance practices, fueling procedures and operation of NGVs. The program will cover the properties of natural gas, NGV technology, CNG fueling station equipment, emergency action plans, fueling station safety equipment and evaluation, vehicle maintenance facility evaluation, safe fueling and defueling procedures.
