Kinetics Hybrid system now part of Drive Clean Chicago voucher program

Jan. 15, 2015

Crosspoint Kinetics said that its Kinetics Hybrid electric hybrid system has been approved for inclusion in the Drive Clean Chicago “fleet-greening” program.

Owners and operators of Class 3-7 bus and light truck fleets that run in the Chicago area can now get up to 80% of the Kinetics Hybrid cost reimbursed as part of an ongoing initiative to reduce noxious emissions in the region, the company said.

The Drive Clean Chicago program has $14 million to assist with funding, provided through the Chicago Dept. of Transportation (CDOT) and resources from the federal Congestion Mitigation Air Quality (CMAQ) program.

The voucher for trucks and buses encourages fleets to shift away from diesel towards zero and low emission fuel and propulsion options such as the Kinetics Hybrid.

To qualify for the grant, the vehicles must be converted to all-electric or hybrid electric and must spend at least 75% of their time operating in the Chicago 6-county area including Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. Fleets are encouraged to submit a voucher request through Crosspoint Kinetics or an approved dealer such as Autopark Fleet, TGEP or others. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis with a goal of greening 250 vehicles.

“These vouchers are a great way for fleets to go green and reduce vehicle pollution around Chicago,” said John McNichols, product director for Crosspoint Kinetics. “With a Kinetics Hybrid for under $9k, fleets will be able to see a substantial return on their investment in a year or less, meaning that it really does pay to be environmentally conscious.”

The Kinetics Hybrid system transforms Class 3-7 buses and trucks into more fuel-efficient and cleaner running vehicles. Fleets have reported up to 30% more miles per gallon and a comparable reduction in emissions when the hybrid is used in heavy start/stop duty cycles, Crosspoint Kinetics explained.
