As the weather in the U.S. begins to cool down, diesel and gas prices are only going up. The national average on-highway diesel price rose 3 cents to $3.766, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on September 8. Gas prices rose 2 cents to $3.192. 

What are the current diesel prices across the U.S.?

Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • West Coast: The biggest increase in diesel prices in the U.S. this week was seen along the West Coast for 5 cents to $4.533. Without including California, diesel prices rose 5 cents to $4.163.
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, diesel prices rose 4 cents to $3.404.
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, diesel prices rose 3 cents to $3.754. 
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, diesel prices rose 2 cents to $3.772.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, diesel prices rose 0.1 cents to $3.754.

According to AAA Motor Club (AAA), the current national diesel price average is $3.704. This is 6 cents lower than EIA’s current estimate and 6 cents higher than this time last year.

What are the current gasoline prices across the U.S.?

The current national average on-highway gasoline price is $3.192, according to EIA, 2 cents higher than last week’s average. 

Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Rocky Mountain: The biggest increase in gas prices in the U.S. this week was in the Rockies, where prices rose by 6 cents to $3.240.
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, gas prices rose 5 cents to $3.063.
  • West Coast: Along the West Coast, gas prices rose 5 cents to $4.194. Without including California, gas prices rose 7 cents to $3.946.
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, gas prices dropped 3 cents to $3.055.
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, gas prices dropped 3 cents to $2.733.

The current national gasoline price average is $3.193, according to AAA. This is 0.1 cent higher than EIA’s current estimate and 8 cents lower than this time last year.
