Diesel prices rose again this week, but gasoline prices saw some relief. The national average on-highway diesel price rose 1 cent to $3.754, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on September 29. Gas prices dropped 6 cents to $3.118.

Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Gulf Coast: The biggest rise in diesel prices this week was seen off the Gulf Coast, up 1 cent to $3.413.
  • West Coast: Off the West Coast, diesel prices rose 1 cent to $4.532. Without including California, diesel prices rose 2 cents to $4.143.
  • East Coast: Off the East Coast, diesel prices rose 1 cent to $3.750.
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, diesel prices remained stagnant at $3.731.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, diesel prices dropped 2 cents to $3.732.

According to AAA Motor Club (AAA), the current national diesel price average is $3.699. This is 6 cents lower than EIA’s current estimate and 14 cents higher than this time last year.

What are the current gasoline prices across the U.S.?

The current national average on-highway gasoline price is $3.118, according to EIA, 6 cents lower than last week’s average. 

Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Midwest: The biggest drop in gasoline prices this week was seen in the Midwest, down 8 cents to $2.928.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, gas prices dropped 7 cents to $3.110. 
  • East Coast: Off the East Coast, gas prices dropped 5 cents to $2.983.
  • Gulf Coast: Off the Gulf Coast, gas prices dropped 4 cents to $2.672.
  • West Coast: Off the West Coast, gas prices dropped 3 cents to $4.238. Without including California, gas prices dropped 5 cents to $4.013.

According to AAA, the current national gasoline price average is $3.150. This is 3 cents higher than EIA’s current estimate and 7 cents lower than this time last year.

In a recent press release, AAA said, “Fall is officially here, bringing lower gas prices and winter-blend gasoline, which is cheaper to produce. Pacific Northwest drivers are getting some relief now that a pipeline issue has been resolved and pump prices are trending downward. The Atlantic hurricane season is halfway over, but the tropics remain a concern for the next two months if there’s storm activity in the Gulf that affects refineries in the area.”
