Hyroad acquires Nikola hydrogen trucks and assets in bankruptcy auction

Trucks-as-a-service company Hyroad bought all of Nikola’s remaining hydrogen trucks, some parts, supporting software, and IP assets. Hyroad plans to continue to support the Nikola trucks that are already in customers’ hands.

Hyroad acquired all of Nikola’s remaining hydrogen trucks (113 Class 8 fuel cell electric trucks), a spare parts inventory, supporting software platforms, and IP assets from the bankruptcy auction. The acquisition did not include Nikola’s Hyla fueling stations.

The acquisition expands Hyroad’s pay-per-mile hydrogen fleet, where it will be deployed primarily in California. Hyroad also plans to offer support for the Nikola trucks that are already in customers’ hands.

Nikola filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February after struggling to raise capital. The company sold its battery assets to Mullen Automotive shortly before filing for Chapter 11.

"These trucks and the corresponding equipment and systems represent immediate capacity to put proven hydrogen fuel cell technology on the road to meet demand for zero-emission trucks," Dmitry Serov, CEO and founder of Hyroad Energy, said.
