After major drops last week, the pendulum has swung with the prices of diesel and gasoline rising this week. The national average on-highway diesel price rose 10 cents to $3.718, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on October 28. Gas prices rose 2 cents to $3.035.

Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Midwest: The biggest increase in diesel prices this week was seen in the Midwest, with a 15-cent rise to $3.715.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, diesel prices rose 10 cents to $3.686.
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, diesel prices rose 9 cents to $3.350.
  • West Coast: Along the West Coast, diesel prices rose 6 cents to $4.485. Without including California, diesel prices rose 9 cents to $4.095.
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, diesel prices rose 5 cents to $3.723.

According to AAA Motor Club (AAA), the current national diesel price average is $3.674. This is 4 cents lower than EIA’s current estimate and 11 cents higher than this time last year.

What are the current gasoline prices across the U.S.?

The current national average on-highway gasoline price is $3.035, according to EIA, 2 cents higher than last week’s average. 

Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Midwest: The biggest increase in gasoline prices this week was seen in the Midwest, with a 7-cent rise to $2.873.
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, gas prices rose 2 cents to $2.580.
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, gas prices rose 1 cent to $2.910.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, gas prices dropped 3 cents to $2.972.
  • West Coast: Along the West Coast, gas prices dropped 6 cents to $4.106. Without including California, gas prices dropped 5 cents to $3.827.

According to AAA, the current national average gasoline price is $3.044. This is 1 cent higher than EIA’s current estimate and 13 cents lower than this time last year.

In a recent press release, AAA said, “Even though the national average hasn’t reached the $3 mark, drivers are paying less than they were this time last year, and that trend should continue as we enter the colder months. Gasoline demand goes down in the fall as fewer people are taking road trips.”
