Diesel and gas prices are surging as the war against Iran fuels more conflicts in the Middle East. The national average on-highway diesel price jumped 96 cents to $4.859, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on March 10. Gas prices rose 49 cents to $3.502.

Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Gulf Coast: The biggest average increase in diesel prices this week was $1.03, bringing the Gulf Coast price to $4.627.
  • West Coast: Diesel prices rose $1.02 to $5.556. Without including California, diesel prices rose 95 cents to $5.088.
  • East Coast: Diesel prices rose 98 cents to $4.901.
  • Midwest: Diesel prices rose 91 cents to $4.801. 
  • Rocky Mountain: Diesel prices rose 66 cents to $4.397.

According to AAA Motor Club (AAA), the current national diesel price average is $4.780. This is 8 cents lower than EIA’s current estimate and 1 dollar and 16 cents higher than this time last year.

What are the current gasoline prices across the U.S.?

The current national average on-highway gasoline price is $3.502, according to EIA, 49 cents higher than last week’s average. 

Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • West Coast: The biggest increase in gasoline prices this week occurred off the West Coast for 53 cents to $4.690. Without including California, gas prices rose 42 cents to $4.215.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, gas prices rose 50 cents to $3.258. 
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, gas prices rose 48 cents to $3.276. 
  • East Coast: Off the East Coast, gas prices rose 48 cents to $3.363.
  • Gulf Coast: Off the Gulf Coast, gas prices rose 47 cents to $3.109.

According to AAA, the current national gasoline price average is $3.539. This is 4 cents higher than EIA’s current estimate and 45 cents higher than this time last year. 

In a recent press release, AAA stated: "The conflict in the Middle East has sent crude oil prices higher to the mid $70/barrel range. The recent increase puts the national average at the same price as it was in early April of 2025. Springtime typically sees higher gas prices as gasoline demand rises and summer-blend gasoline production begins. The last time the national average made a similar weekly jump was back in March of 2022 during the start of the Russia/Ukraine conflict."
