After a brief respite last week, gasoline prices are up again this week; but diesel prices continue to recede. The national average on-highway diesel price dropped 5 cents to $5.351, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on April 28. Gas prices rose 8 cents to $4.123.

Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • West Coast: The biggest drop in diesel prices this week occurred along the West Coast for 9 cents to $6.530. Without including California, diesel prices dropped 8 cents to $5.926.
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, diesel prices dropped 7 cents to $5.425.
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, diesel prices dropped 6 cents to $5.012.
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, diesel prices dropped 3 cents to $5.131.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, diesel prices rose 6 cents to $5.270.

According to AAA Motor Club (AAA), the current national diesel price average is $5.461. This is 11 cents higher than EIA’s current estimate and 1 dollar and 93 cents higher than this time last year.

What are the current gasoline prices across the U.S.?

The current national average on-highway gasoline price is $4.123, according to EIA, 8 cents lower than last week’s average. 

Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Midwest: The biggest increase in gasoline prices this week occurred in the Midwest for 10 cents to $3.884.
  • West Coast: Along the West Coast, gas prices rose 9 cents to $5.412. Without including California, gas prices rose 4 cents to $4.967.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, gas prices rose 8 cents to $4.016.
  • East Coast: In the East Coast, gas prices rose 7 cents to $3.958.
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, gas prices rose 6 cents to $3.675. 

According to AAA, the current national gasoline price average is $4.176. This is 5 cents higher than EIA’s current estimate and 1 dollar and 3 cents higher than this time last year.
