Orange EV secures historic 600-truck order to accelerate yard electrification
Key takeaways
- Orange EV secures a 600-truck order, signaling growing fleet adoption of electric yard trucks at scale.
- Large fleets are expanding EV deployments after successful trials, moving from testing to standardization.
- Leasing activity is up 272%, showing fleets prefer flexible financing to accelerate yard electrification.
Orange EV recently reported record order volume for electric terminal trucks, including a 600-truck order marking the largest single order in company history. The company, which manufactures electric terminal trucks, said the scale of investment reflects a shift toward standardized electric yard operations across logistics networks.
The company said more than 1,900 Orange EV trucks are in service, including an initial deployment with DHL in 2015. It also reported increased leasing activity, with a 272% rise over the last 12 months, as fleets expand adoption without large upfront capital investment.
Orange EV said its Kansas City manufacturing facility is designed to produce 2,400 trucks per year in a single shift, with capacity for further expansion. The company also highlighted its Orange Juicer battery-integrated DC fast charger, which reduces infrastructure requirements and shortens deployment timelines.
"We have left the early adopter stage of yard electrification," Kurt Neutgens, co-founder, president, and CTO of Orange EV, said. "We're seeing companies invest in hundreds of trucks because total cost of ownership superiority has been proven, including uptime, reliability, fuel savings, and service guarantees."
