Nikola Badger available for pre-order

June 29, 2020
The Nikola Badger pickup truck will be available as a BEV or FCET and make its debut in December at Nikola World.

Nikola Corp. started off June by completing a merger with VectoIQ to become a publicly traded company (NKLA) on the NASDAQ and is closing the month out by making its potentially game-breaking Badger pickup available for pre-order. The Badger will offer both battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and fuel cell electric vehicle (FCET) powertrains.

Customers who reserve units before Nov. 15 will receive up to a $5,000 match of their initial deposit. The official unveiling goes down Dec. 3-5, 2020 at the company’s Nikola World customer event in Phoenix, where one lucky pre-order customer will be selected to win a free Badger. All those who put down a deposit will be invited to the event.

“The Nikola Badger is a game-changer,” Nikola CEO Mark Russell said. “The program will help drive down the cost of the fuel-cell components on our semi-truck while accelerating the hydrogen station roll-out. Giving customers the option to order a fuel-cell or battery electric version will ensure we drive the cost down for everyone across our lineup,”

Some key specs include:

  • Range: 300 miles (BEV)/ 600 miles (FCET)
  • Acceleration: 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds
  • Continuous HP: 455
  • Peak HP: 906 HP
  • Peak Torque: 980 ft. lbs.
  • Towing capacity: 8,000 lb.
  • Tire size: Up to 35 inches (factory spec)

Due to advanced software working in concert with the batteries/fuel cells, the truck will reportedly be able to operate on grades up to 40%. With a fully loaded trailer (combined vehicle weight of 18,000 lb.), the Badger will be able to climb a 30% grade from a standstill without motor stall.

“The technology on the Badger is next to none; it has one of the most advanced powertrains and infotainment systems on the market,” said Founder and Executive Chairman Trevor Milton. “The features include over-the-air updates, keyless entry, independent torque control of every wheel, 906 HP, 980 ft. lbs. of torque, 15 kilowatt power export with 220V and 110V, tie-down tracks inside the truck for cargo, hidden refrigerator, up to 600 miles of range, and waterproof displays.”
