Recall Roundup: Safety notices issued for several vans, trucks, and trailers

Dec. 28, 2023
The NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature missing VINs, loss of steering control, and missing warnings for turn signal failure.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands like Ford, Great Dane, and Daimler.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or go visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Some Ford Maverick models missing warning for turn signal failure

Ford is recalling certain 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. In the event that one of the rear turn signals stops working, the vehicle will not adjust the turn signal flash rate frequency to warn the driver that a turn signal is not working correctly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." A nonfunctioning exterior turn signal will not notify other drivers that the vehicle is turning, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 189,814 vehicles. Dealers will update the body control module software. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 2, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23C41.

Loss of steering control on certain Mercedes Sprinter vehicles

Daimler Vans USA is recalling certain 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles. The front left suspension strut bolt may not be secured properly, which can result in a loss of steering control. A loss of steering control can increase the risk of a crash. This recall potentially affects 33 vehicles.

Dealers will inspect the front left suspension strut bolt connection and repair the body contact surface as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 9, 2024. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 877-762-8267. DVUSA's number for this recall is VS3FEDDOR.

Incorrect VIN on Great Dane Champion trailers

Great Dane Trailers is recalling certain 2023 Champion trailers. The VINs on the certification label may be incorrect. As such, these trailers fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." An owner that references an incorrect VIN label may not recognize their trailer is involved in a safety recall and may not have the recall remedy performed, which could increase the risk of injury, fire, or a crash. This recall potentially affects 25 vehicles.

Great Dane has mailed new certification decals. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 13, 2024. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 877-369-3493.
