International Truck and Engine Corp. introduced the Diamond Logic PowerPack 3 auxiliary power unit at the NTEA Work Truck show last month. The 3,000-watt AC power system is a factory-installed option on medium-duty and severe-service vehicles.

“Diamond Logic PowerPack 3 provides heavy-duty mobile power that virtually eliminates the potential for theft as well as the hassle and high costs of maintaining a gas-powered generator,” said Brad Bishop, International's Business Line manager, Truck Electronics.

According to the OEM, the APU, which costs about $1 per kW to operate, is mounted on the truck body to save cargo space. It can be used to power anything from power tools, lights, test equipment and compressors to onboard driver amenities such as TVs and refrigerators.
