Chevron Products Co. has announced its API CJ-4 and API CI-4 Plus heavy-duty diesel engine oils now meet the new Caterpillar ECF-2 specification. Caterpillar now recommends the use of ECF-2 oil for pre-2007 on-road and any off-road Caterpillar engines no bigger than the C3500.
Among the Chevron CJ-4 products that meet Caterpillar ECF-2 and ECF-3 specifications are the Delo 400 LE Multigrade and Texaco Ursa Premium TDX EC. The Chevron API CI-4 Plus oils that meet Caterpillar ECF-2 are Chevron Delo 400 Multigrade, Chevron RPM SAE, and Texaco Ursa Super Plus.
Chevron’s CJ-4 oils already met the Caterpillar ECF-3 specification, designed for trucks equipped with EPA ’07-compliant diesel engines.
Maintenance professionals can use “a one-oil inventory strategy” for Caterpillar engines regardless of whether they are ’07-compliant by using oils that meet both ECF-2 and ECF-3 specifications, Chevron said.
