Kuka Robotics Corp., the U.S. division of Germany’s Kuka Roboter GmBh, is showing off its new Kuka KR 500 robot fitted with a specialized arm and programmed with unique software to pack freight pallets with a mix of different goods.

“Order picking by layer is vital to manufacturers who need to tailor orders on the pallet level to more efficiently and quickly fulfill mixed product orders,” said Kevin Kozuszek, director of marketing for Kuka. “Mixed load pallets will streamline distribution efforts and reduce the cost to ship product to both retail outlets and end-users.”

The pallet-packing Kuka robot is capable of handling a payload of up to 1,261 lbs with its loading arm and has a reach of up to 10 ft., he said.
